Art and Design

Intent:

At St. Peter’s Catholic First School we are committed to the development of the whole child to reach their full potential. Our Art and Design curriculum allows children to explore their imagination and express themselves and their individuality through the exploration of a variety of mediums. We encourage children to develop as creative thinkers, exploring and celebrating their ideas, feelings, attitudes and values. We aim to foster originality and creativity using Art as a means of communication. 

Implementation:

We provide opportunities to; 

• develop in the children a love and appreciation of art forms and build their confidence in expressing themselves creatively 

• enable children of all abilities to enhance their self-esteem through success in using the new skills taught as well as enabling them to apply these skills in other areas of the curriculum 

• develop the children’s ability to observe, investigate, respond to and record through a variety of forms and media 

• deliver the National Curriculum and Early Years Framework in an interesting and imaginative way in order to provide a broad and balanced art curriculum throughout the year groups 

• use the work of children to provide a colourful and stimulating environment around the school. 

Impact:

Young Voices New Visions Art Exhibitions

This year, our school proudly took part in Young Voices New Visions 2025, with the inspiring theme of ‘Courage’, linked to the Pope’s Jubilee Year of Pilgrims of Hope. Every child contributed to our stunning large dove sculpture, either by crafting a feather or quilling the bird’s chest, symbolising unity and bravery.

We also participated in the Young Voices New Visions 2024 exhibition at Worcester Cathedral. The theme, ‘The Sky Above Us and the World Beneath Our Feet’, inspired a whole-school collaboration to create a dramatic sculpture of a raining cloud. We’re excited to see our work displayed in such a beautiful and historic setting

Young Voices New Visions Exhibition 2023 

We are delighted to announce that once again, St. Peter’s have participated in the ‘Young Voices New Visions Art Exhibition’ at Worcester Cathedral. This year the theme for the exhibition was ‘Time’. The children all contributed to our whole school sculpture of 'Dandelion Clocks' which looked fantastic in the beautiful setting of the Cathedral.
