Year 4 had an amazing time when Mott MacDonald Bentley engineers came to visit! The children learned all about engineering and how water gets from rivers to our taps with Ellie the Engineer and they loved taking part in a hands-on filtration experiment. There were lots of great questions and plenty of excitement as the children discovered what it’s like to be an engineer. A huge thank you to Gemma, Emma and Tom for such a fun and inspiring workshop. Year 4 loved every minute!

The Woodpeckers have been deepening their understanding of the properties of solids, liquids and gases by spotting similarities and differences between them. Things got even more intriguing when they explored materials that didn’t behave as expected! Solid pegs appeared to flow like a liquid, while the strange mixture of cornflour and water surprised everyone by acting like a solid one moment and a liquid the next. A fascinating investigation that sparked lots of curiosity — and yes, it got a little messy too!

Stay and Pray
To mark the Feast of the Conversion of St Paul, the Woodpeckers reflected on how Saul, who had once persecuted Jesus’ followers, became Paul, a devoted follower of Jesus who dedicated his life to travelling far and wide to share Jesus’ Good News.
The children thoughtfully explored how St. Paul changed his life and helped others to do the same. They then shared meaningful ways in which they can follow St Paul’s example in their own lives. It was a prayerful and reverent celebration, with the children participating with great care and respect. Well done Woodpeckers and a special thank you to all our visitors who joined us and made the celebration even more special.

Year 4 have been exploring solids, liquids, and gases through a simple but fascinating science experiment. Using just lemonade and raisins, they observed what happens when gas bubbles attach to a solid and cause it to move through a liquid — with some very surprising results! The children were curious, excited, and full of great observations as they watched the experiment in action. Proof that amazing science can happen with the simplest of resources!

Brilliant effort – fantastic listening and playing throughout! We can’t wait to see what you learn next!

Woodpeckers have had so much fun performing the mischievous and slightly disgusting poem “The Slithermonchowchuck”! From munching on marbles to nibbling on T. Rex toes, they brought every slimy, squelchy, and silly moment to life with confidence, expression, gesture, and rhythm. It was impossible not to laugh as they explored the poem — their reactions say it all! You can see the joy, surprise, and even a little disgust in their hilarious expressions.

Stay and Pray on World Kindness Day
Today, the Woodpecker class welcomed their families into school for a special stay and pray session to celebrate World Kindness Day. Together, we closed our eyes and listened to the story of the Good Samaritan, taking time to reflect on the power and importance of kindness in our daily lives.
It was a calm, thoughtful and prayerful moment to share as a community. Thank you to all the families who joined us — your presence made it even more meaningful.

A little bit (or huge downpour!) of rain didn’t stop our amazing Y4 children from having a wonderful time at Forest School today! They worked together to build shelters, shared smiles, and showed so much kindness and teamwork throughout the day. As part of Anti-Bullying Week, it’s been lovely to see everyone supporting one another — proving that even on the rainiest days, a little teamwork and friendship can make the biggest difference.

They explored recipes in detail – spotting imperative verbs, time adverbials, and organisational features such as bullet points and headings. Using everything they had learned, they then wrote their very own sets of instructions for making a pasty.
It’s safe to say that everyone was feeling very hungry by the end of the lesson!

Year 4 had great fun modelling the digestive process this week! Using everyday items like scissors, tights, and tubes (and a bit of mess!), the children explored how different parts of the digestive system work together to break down food. It was a hands-on, memorable way to understand what happens inside our bodies!

Inspired by what they saw, the children then created their own wonderful interpretations. The results were creative and thought-provoking. Well done, Woodpeckers - fantastic work!

After a discussion about how we are all made in the image and likeness of God, the Woodpeckers explored newspapers to find examples of people showing respect, care and consideration for others and the world, as well as moments when these were not shown.
